We are Atomic, a leading software development agency who design and build digital products and services for successful businesses in the UK and around the world. Due to a new business win, we are currently seeking to recruit a Lead PHP Developer.

 

Role Responsibilities

  • Collaborating closely with Product Owners and Solutions Architects to shape and define technical solutions

  • Working with cross-functional teams to design, develop and deploy advanced, bespoke PHP based applications and solutions

  • Leading by example writing high performance, quality code

  • Mentoring and training junior and mid-level developers

  • Providing support and coaching to senior developers

  • Assisting the Project Management team in planning project delivery

  • Instilling good practice in the development team and ensure high standards are upheld

  • Ensuring security practices are adhered to

  • Reviewing current technology choices and evaluate new options to ensure our digital tooling is up to date and fit for purpose

  • Improving our DevOps pipeline and increase use of automation

  • Setting up and managing server environments

  • Working on bug fixing and improving site performance

  • Reviewing code written by others in the development team

  • Writing automated unit tests

 

Knowledge & Experience Required

  • Proven commercial experience as a PHP developer using at least one mainstream framework (Symfony and/or Laravel preferred)

  • Experience with Wordpress would be a plus

  • In-depth understanding of the entire web development process (design, development and deployment)

  • Knowledge of version control systems, preferably Git.

  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, knowledge of SOLID principles advantageous

  • Familiarity with front-end languages (e.g. HTML, JavaScript and CSS)

  • Experience with MySQL and database-driven CMS

  • Experience running Agile projects and Agile methodologies

  • Experience of working with third-party libraries and remote data APIs via REST and JSON.

  • Experience with Unit tests and TDD would be advantageous

  • Experience of managing a team, or a desire to take that career step
